What is Breast Uplift Surgery?

The classical breast lift (Mastopexy) is a cosmetic procedure which consists of the lifting and refining of the breast area. The uplift surgery promotes additional firmness and volume and is most common in woman whose breasts have sagged or changed shape due to factors such as childbirth, weight loss or the natural ageing process.

Mastopexy is an extremely effective cosmetic procedure which will give breasts a fresher and more pert appearance. This operation can also be combined with breast augmentation (implants) or a breast reduction to help achieve the desired shape and the optimum results for each patient.

Surgery

Breast uplift surgery is usually performed under a general anaesthetic and can take 2-3 hours, usually with an overnight stay in our luxury hospital. The operation is relatively straightforward composing of a circular incision being made around the areola (the dark area around the nipple) then vertically down to the natural fold of the breast and horizontally along this breast crease (this is sometimes referred to as an ´anchor cut´ due to its shape). This type of incision heals quickly and achieves minimal scarring. The excessive skin is then removed and surrounding breast tissue is repositioned along with the nipple to give a more natural final result.

Sometimes, the surgeon may advise using implants in combination with an uplift to add optimum volume and firmness. In such cases, the breast augmentation and breast uplift can be performed together and your surgeon will explain all this with you in detail and using case studies as an example.

Post Procedure

We recommend around 7 – 10 days recovery time after the procedure, but this can vary depending on your age and the nature of your occupation.
After your surgery, a dressing will be applied to support the breasts. You may sometimes feel a little tightness and discomfort around the area, especially over the first few days. After this initial period, you should be able to commence your normal activities within 3 – 4 weeks.
We do recommend that you wear a special support bra and limit the amount of heavy physical exercise that you undertake for 6 weeks conclusively. Your surgeon will discuss follow-up appointments and the lifetime after care package with you, which is all part of the service and included in the price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the complexity of the procedure, the surgery normally takes about 2-3 hours, not including time in recovery.

The results of a breast uplift will remain for a substantial amount of time and your breasts will always be more pert than if you did not have the surgery. Over time, your breasts will sag again, however this can be delayed if you have smaller breasts, do not gain weight and remain fit and wear good quality, supportive bras.

We recommend that people take two weeks off work following the procedure (more if your job is particularly physical). Strenuous activities, heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for about 6 weeks after your surgery.

No, the only way to substantially lift your breasts is by surgery.

Yes, you can combine this procedure with other breast or body surgeries. You can discuss this in full at your free consultation.

Whenever skin is cut, nerves are also cut; this may result in altered sensation to the area, particularly at the incision site. All care will be taken to maintain sensation as much as possible.

You should be at a healthy weight for your height when you have surgery as this lowers risks related to anaesthetic. For the best aesthetic results, we recommend that you are at your ideal weight at the time of surgery as further weight loss or gain can change the results of your surgery.

You should check with your surgeon regarding safe timings of air travel following your surgery. Many airlines have their own protocols and you should inform your travel insurance company if you have had recent surgery. We recommend that in the weeks after surgery, you are close to one of the locations Nu Cosmetic Clinic can refer you to in case you have any concerns, so foreign holidays may be best avoided until a few months after your procedure.

All clients must be at least 18 years of age to have surgery. We do not set an upper age limit for our procedures, suitability for surgery will be discussed at your free consultation with your surgeon.

Yes, if you are at all unsure about what your surgeon has told you, we will be more than happy to refer you for a second free consultation with another surgeon.
